Roof Demossing

Roof Demossing

Just like any other of your exterior surfaces, your roof can very quickly become dirty, discoloured and overgrown. Moss and lichen thrive on our roofs, especially in shady, damp areas. This really isn’t pleasant to look at, but it can also cause damage to the roof tiles underneath.

We use safe, gentle methods to clean your roof, avoiding the types of damage that powerful pressure washing can cause and producing the best possible finished result.

Wherever possible we use a scaffold tower for access. With specially designed roof scrapers and telescopic poles we reach right up to the ridge tiles, meaning we rarely have climb onto the roof itself. If we do need to physically climb onto the roof, we use a combination of roof ladders and harness and rope access equipment. This means we don’t need to stand on the tiles themselves.

Following the scraping, we will clear all gutters and downspouts and treat the roof with a professional biocide treatment to kill all organic growth.

We are fully licensed, trained and insured to use the biocide treatments and to erect and use scaffold towers. So you can rest assured you are getting a professional and safe service from a fully qualified team.

Removing the moss from your roof will make your house look clean and smart! But that’s not the only reason you should get your roof demossed. Moss is essentially a plant, its roots will grow into your roof tiles and any cracks in the mortar, loosening it as it does so. In addition to that, moss will hold a lot of water and add an astonishing amount of weight to your roof. Moss and biofilm removal leaves a smart finish, but ultimately prolongs the life of your roof.

We have never and will never pressure wash a roof. Tile manufacturers do not recommend this method of cleaning. We manually remove moss from roofs, using a scaffold tower where ever possible. If we can’t use a scaffold tower we use a roof ladder, harness and rope equipment for our safety and yours. Once we have removed all of the moss, we will treat your roof with a biocide treatment. This delicate balance of chemicals will kill all organic growth and will continue to clean for 6-12 months. Your results will just get better and better!

After we have removed all of the moss from your roof and treated it, your roof will be smart and clean for a number of years. How many years will depend on where your house is located. We recommend that the moment you see the first tiny pieces of moss returning, you should have us back again. We can then apply another biocide treatment instead of having to do a full scrape along with that. This will save you money as the treatment on its own is far cheaper than having the whole of your roof scraped again!
